Swift St to close for roadworks
Part of Swift Street in central Albury will be closed for two days next week to allow important resurfacing works to take place.
The street will be closed between the David Street intersection and the Olive Street roundabout on Monday 21 May and Tuesday 22 May while the road surface is milled off, the centre traffic island removed and a primer seal laid.
The material from the mill-off will be fully recycled and used in the construction of bike paths throughout Albury as well as roads at the Waste Management Centre.
The section of Swift Street will again be closed on Monday 28 May while asphalt is laid.
From 29 May, for approximately five days, works will continue but the road will remain open subject to traffic restrictions.
An important part of this work will involve the construction of dedicated cycle lanes as part of plans to develop a network of bike paths in the CBD.
Consultations have been held with business owners to minimise the impact of the works on trade.
AlburyCity appreciates the works will cause some inconvenience but trusts residents will understand the project will result in a new, improved road to replace a surface that’s reached its ‘use-by’ date.
In the lead-up to the reconstruction, pram crossings and access from the SS&A car park are being developed on-site this week.
